Two Indonesian songwriters of "Nuansa Bening," Keenan Nasution and Rudy Pekerti, are suing Vidi Aldiano for using their song without permission. This lawsuit was filed at the Central Jakarta District Court. Vidi is accused of singing the song "Nuansa Bening" 31 times during live concerts without permission from the creators. The issue of performance royalties keeps arising in Indonesia.
The plaintiffs are asking the judges to recognize the copyright infringement and order Vidi to pay damages amounting to IDR 24.5 billion (USD1.5 mn). There is media speculation on the huge damages claim. Apparently the performances happened between 2009 and 2024. Judges are often cautious on damages awards in Indonesia. But the number of unauthorized music performance disputes may need a precedent.
