A major new report from TorrentFreak has revealed that Fmovies, once the most visited movie piracy site in the world, is strongly linked to a global malware campaign involving infostealers. According to the findings, nearly one million devices may have been infected as a result of users visiting illicit streaming platforms like Fmovies. This exposure has led to risks such as credential theft, financial fraud, and potential identity compromise.


The report reinforces concerns that those of us in the enforcement field have long expressed: piracy is not just an issue of intellectual property; it also poses a significant cybersecurity threat.


Microsoft has previously highlighted similar risks associated with streaming and torrent sites. The dismantling of Fmovies by Vietnamese authorities in 2024 now appears to have disrupted a much larger criminal operation.
