Defendant Le Hai Nam ran an IPTV service called BestBuy IPTV which had committed digital copyright infringement.  We wrote about this target in previous posts here: https://www.antipiracy.news/post/vietnam-highlighted-in-2024-ustr-notorious-markets-list.

Like many illegally provided sports and moving streaming sites, it was offered to Vietnamese and foreign viewers. The case was brought by the football industry’s Premier League and the movie industry’s Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).

The defendant pleaded guilty in the Hanoi People's Court and on 19th April it issued a decision imposing a suspended sentence of 30 months jail time and a fine of VND100 million (around USD4,000).  In addition, the court ordered confiscation of assets worth over VND 615 million (around USD24,000 USD) which arose from his illegal profits and a further voluntary state compensation payment of VND 300 million (around USD 12,000).
