In the crackdown on copyright crimes, national public security agencies organized the investigation and handling of over 1,300 criminal cases related to pirated teaching materials, films and software in 2023.
Local public security agencies have focused on strengthening the coordination between law enforcement and judicial authorities. This means that cases and evidence can now be more easily transferred between administrative, criminal and civil remedies for rightsholders. There are improved mechanisms for reporting leads, transferring cases, sharing information, and providing professional support in collaboration with relevant departments.
Special campaigns targeting online infringement and piracy, such as "Sword Net," "Crackdown on Piracy and Distribution of Cinema Films," and "Youth Copyright Protection Season," have been jointly organized. All of the 150 major cases under joint supervision have been successfully solved.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Market Administrative Law Enforcement Corps of Shanghai Municipality has publicised an Administrative Penalty Case from January 2024 relating to Copyright Infringement regarding playing certain music without License in a KTV. It was found that Shanghai Mixiu Entertainment Co Ltd screened the Copyright Holder’s work without permission. Mixiu received a warning and a fine of RMB 120,000 (US$ 17,000).
